Thank you SO much Georgina Dean, Vi, Kay Adams, Elizabeth Burton, Jena, Marty, Zina, Jillian, Julie and several others for tuning into my live video with Daria Diaz!
Friends!
I’m excited to bring you this conversation with Daria Diaz, writer of Wellgevity Warrior with Daria Diaz. This is Daria’s second Substack Live and my first. I’m so grateful to Daria for joining me in this chat.
Reviewing myself on video caused some inner cringing at first. Did I wish I said “um” and “like” less (especially since I rarely do in real life)? Sure, and I noticed the growth from what happened after these thoughts.
My inner critic reared its judgmental head, at first. It loved pointing out everything I could have said better.
But I didn’t spiral downward. I didn’t stay in that place of self-ridicule.
I noticed the voice quickly.
I reframed and let my inner self-compassion chime in. Instead of continuing to point a tsk tsk finger a la the monkeys in Caps for Sale (yes, I have a toddler), I asked myself,
“What did I learn?”
“What went well?”
“How can I grow?”
I’m proud of myself for stepping outside my comfort zone, trying something new and getting through! I celebrate this opportunity to grow from the experience itself and meet unhelpful old patterns with love.
Perhaps you can relate.
Prompts for You:
Reflect on a time you tried something new, maybe from a place of part excitement, part nerves.
Write about your experience. How did it go? What helped you persevere? How did you feel afterwards?
Write about a time you channeled your inner self-compassion or wise mind. Why did it come at that time? How did it help?
If the idea of self-compassion is foreign to you, write about what that might look like. Create the character of self-compassion- who is this voice/character? How do they hold themselves? What matters to them? Include as many details as you like, all the senses, and HAVE FUN:).
After Your Write:
Read over what you wrote and write a reflection, starting with any of the following (answer all you feel called to):
As I read this, I’m aware of…
As I read this, I’m curious about…
My questions are…
The next step for me is…

Notes/resources from our chat:
Daria and I spoke about her work as a Board-Certified Health Coach and a beautiful offer she started this week, the Chair Mobility program. Please listen in and reach out to her for any questions about future programs.
I shared more of my story – how I got started with journaling, my love of (supportive) groups, and the power of journaling in community.
If you’d like to experience journaling in community and more inner calm ahead of the late winter holidays, there are a couple of spots left in the next live, Virtual Journaling for Wellness course, starts Wednesday, November 19th! To read testimonials and learn about more Journal Course offerings, go here.
I mentioned The Open Center in New York, where I took many courses over the years, going back as far as early 2000s. The Open Center closed in 2022, and from here, the New Center for Holistic Learning was born.
Here’s a little more about the New Center for Holistic Learning:
(Open Center) “Co-creator Ralph White is at the heart of this new initiative, which is committed to developing programs of substance, depth and integrity.”
I gave a shoutout to Kay Adams, Founder/Director of the Center for Journal Therapy, and Therapeutic Writing Institute where I studied. Thanks again to Kay for tuning in!
The journaling book I showed and referred to is The Book of Alchemy, by Suleika Jaouad.
We LOVE hearing from you and growing the Journal Your Path community. Comments are open to all. If you enjoyed this post, let us know by clicking on the ❤️, and sharing with others. Thank you!
Till next time,
Jennifer
